We’ve all been there – you’ve just finished work at 6pm on a Friday and you’re ready for a relaxing beer. You reach into the fridge only to remember that you never stocked up after last weekend!
Fortunately, there’s a growing number of services that will deliver the alcohol of your choice right to your door within a few minutes / hours. Even better, they allow you to shop around before ordering your favourite drink, saving you both time and money.
Alternatively, if you’re more into exploration and can wait a little longer for your delivery, we recommend services like Good Pair Days for wine and Whisky Loot for whisky (obviously!).

BWS Delivery
Almost certainly the most well known bottle shop brand in Australia, we’re all familiar with this Woollies-owned business. Did you know that they offered same-day delivery on any purchases though?
Whilst you could schedule your order up to 7 days in advance, it’s also possible to get your delivery ASAP. What does this actually mean? When you check out on bws.com.au, it gives you an approximate estimate on the delivery time which is always within 3 hours. In most metro areas, you’re likely to get your alcohol delivered within the hour.
Remember that you can also earn Everyday Rewards points with every purchase. These things add up over time!
Delivery Areas: Within delivery range of over 170 stores across all states.
Delivery Time: Within 3 hours (normally within 60 minutes).
Delivery Fee: $10 on all orders.
Dan Murphys
Dan Murphys has a similar offering to BWS, with alcohol delivery available near most of its Metro stores. Slightly winning the delivery time battle, they promise all deliveries will arrive within just 2 hours. There are stores in every state/territory, so if you live in a major town/city then it’s very likely you’ll be able to order from Dan Murphys.
However, there is a limit that it’s only available between 9am and 6pm. Not too helpful if you’ve run out of drinks on a Friday evening! They also come in with an expensive delivery flat fee of $15 per order.
Delivery Areas: Within delivery range of over 210 stores across all states.
Delivery Time: Within 2 hours (normally within 60 minutes).
Delivery Fee: $15 on all orders.
Jimmy Brings
Now we’ve covered the two national chains who offer same-day delivery, we’re on to the more specialist businesses. Jimmy Brings is easily the most famous, with their service available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Adelaide and Perth.
Their major selling point is that they’ll deliver beers, wines and spirits within 30 minutes. Opening times vary but most of their services are still open until midnight, making this the perfect place to get late night booze.
Even better, delivery fees are often incredible cheap at under $5. Cheaper delivery fee and quicker delivery? Sign me up.
Delivery Areas: Sydney (including the Shire and Parramatta), Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Perth.
Delivery Time: Within 30 minutes.
Delivery Fee: $5 or less.
Tipple
Tipple has been running for 6 years and has expanded into both Sydney and Melbourne (Perth on the way!) and allows you to order from local independent bottle shops rather than one of the national chains.
I found them to have a fantastic range of products across beers, wines and spirits although often coming in at a premium price point.
Delivery is promised within 40 – 50 minutes, although you can also schedule deliveries ahead of time if you want.
Delivery Areas: Sydney and Melbourne metro areas.
Delivery Time: Within 50 minutes.
Delivery Fee: $7.95 flat fee on all orders.
Liquoroo
With the best name on this list, Liquoroo was founded in 2018 and has since expanded their delivery network to most of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.
They don’t have a particularly large range of alcohol in most locations, however they can make up for this by having great regular deals. It’s worth checking their app regularly to see what’s on offer in your area.
Just like Jimmy Brings, they promise most deliveries within 30 minutes.
Delivery Areas: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra metro areas.
Delivery Time: Within 30 minutes.
Delivery Fee: $5 delivery to most areas.
The Cheapest Same-Day Alcohol Delivery Service
Each service offers a very similar offering, with the major differences being delivery fee and delivery time. One thing we haven’t touched on is the price of the drinks themselves. Here, I wanted to compare a range of different drinks to see which service comes out cheapest.
Drink | BWS | Dan Murphys | Jimmy Brings | Tipple | Liquoroo |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Heineken 6x330ml | $22.00 | $17.10 | — | $21.99 | $18.99 |
One Fifty Lashes 24x345ml | $49.00 | $53.90 | — | $81.99 | — |
McGuigan Black Label Red 750ml | $9.00 | $6.95 | — | $16.99 | $15.99 |
Absolut Vodka 700ml | $51.00 | $41.95 | $48.99 | $48.99 | $48.60 |
Glenfiddich 12yo 700ml | $65.00 | $64.90 | $81.99 | $84.99 | — |
The winners for variety and price really do appear to be BWS and Dan Murphys, although they aren’t quite as quick on delivery.
It’s really interesting to see some extreme variety on price. Imagine paying $17 for a bottle of wine available at Dan Murphys for less than $7! It really goes to show that shopping around when buying alcohol is great for saving money.
