There are hundreds of smaller brands around Australia that create incredible vegan products, though they lack the marketing budget of big brands and can be really expensive to try.
This makes the promise of a monthly curated vegan box super exciting, allowing people to expand their horizons and discover new vegan products. Curated, carefully selected vegan products is exactly what ‘The Vegan Box’ promise to provide.
I tested their vegan discovery box to see if it can bring excitement and help me find new plant-based brands.
IMPORTANT: The Vegan Box are not currently accepting new customers. A revamped service is expected to be launched in early 2024 so keep an eye out for that.
If you’re looking for a similar alternative to The Vegan Box, I recommend looking at GoodnessMe, Five Vegans, or Vegan Grocery Store.

Getting Started with The Vegan Box
The Vegan Box offers the ability to buy a single trial box or to subscribe to their regular deliveries with a 1-month, 3-month or 6-month subscription, making it perfect for gifting. Each box is fully Vegan, but can also be made completely Gluten Free for anyone with a Gluten intolerance.
The box always contains between 5-8 items with an RRP of over $30. I found their website a little slow and confusing, although it’s a straightforward process to choose your subscription plan.
In order to receive your first box next month, you’ll need to order before the end of the current month. That is, to get the July box you need to order before the end of June. Fortunately, it’s also possible to add on the purchase of the current month’s box if you don’t want to miss out (as long as stocks last). This is a great little feature and means you don’t have to wait too long for your first box.
The Vegan Box ships across Australia with no restrictions, taking between 2-8 days to arrive.

Our ‘The Vegan Box’ Box
My box arrived on the 6th April, which is pretty reasonable considering the logistics of getting all those boxes sent out. The delivery driver left my box by the front porch and, as you can see, it’s a small white box that’s easily hidden. The branding is very simple with just a sticker applied, using an approach that wastes less resources. The courier is provided by Sendle who sent really informative tracking emails about my parcel.
The box was in great condition, with products packed tightly and efficiently inside (always a good sign!). They don’t share the contents of the box before everyone’s received theirs, so it’s always a surprise to discover what’s inside.
Products in The Vegan Box
I received 6 products in this box, all in perfect condition and a reasonable size. In particular, receiving a 70g bar of chocolate is great compared to other boxes. There was the interesting addition of some Collagen tablets that I would personally associate more with a beauty box. This is the full list of items received:
- Falafel & Burger Mix
- Qsilica Collagen Tablets
- Berry Wholefoods Bar
- Dark & Raspberry Chocolate
- Sipping Broth Bags
- Gingerbread Bunny
You can check out my thoughts on some of the products through my Instagram page. I particularly like the sweet touch of an Easter bunny for the April box.
Along with the products, I also received some discount codes and a cute information leaflet detailing out each product. Notably, this revealed that the collagen tablets were worth $44.95 by themselves! The cheapest I could find them online was $38 so this definitely represents great value.
Whilst I’m not a Vegan myself, I do live with a friend who’s been living on a Vegan diet for a few years. It’s a really positive sign that most of the products I received were from brands she hadn’t known about previously. This means you’re really likely to discover new products that you will want to buy again. For example, Halo Top have only just landed in Australia in 2020 which is perfect for all you chocolate lovers out there.
Cost of The Vegan Box
A single box comes in at just $25/month, with no discounts on the box if you extend your subscription length. For subscriptions of 3 or 6 months, you also qualify for free shipping which can make a big difference.
Shipping comes in at a flat $6.50 for either the single box or a monthly rolling subscription (cancel anytime). Over the length of a 6 month subscription this means you can save nearly $40 on shipping costs.
Is this worth what you get? On a pure monetary calculation this is absolutely good value. You’re guaranteed to get at least $30 worth of product in each box. Plus, you need to consider the benefits of discovering new products and supporting smaller, local brands. This box is absolutely perfect as a gift, as well as for people exploring a vegan diet.
Conclusions
The Vegan Box are a small, family-run subscription box, so I was worried about their ability to curate a box of interesting products. Fortunately, they have proved my fears to be completely unfounded as each product I received was super interesting and exciting. Partnering with fantastic brands, they have been able to provide a really enjoyable discovery box experience. Even as a non-vegan, I found the products interesting and would wholeheartedly recommend this box as a gift.
The box is great for a wide variety of people, in particular those who want to expand their vegan horizons and move their diet further towards cruelty-free products. Buying the subscription as a gift for a friend won’t break the bank and gives a great long-lasting present.
